My partner in library crime Misti and I attended the 2015 ISTE Conference in Philly June 28 - July 1. Misti is a former BPS elementary librarian and now our district's Library Media Systems Innovator (a.k.a. my boss the library director). Here we are touring Philly in the rain.
Misti and I shared our PBL experiences in a poster session. What a crazy two hours! We've never talked to that many people in our lives! Check out our presentation (and Misti's blog).

One of my favorite sessions was "Library Design: Rethinking Spaces with Students in Mind" by Carolyn Foote. She challenged us to "unthink to rethink" about our policies and procedures to brainstorm ways to improve our library. Actually it's a great way to frame brainstorming for almost any topic.
Have you ever thought about this? How is your library or school designed?

ISTE had Carolyn's presentation room set in a unique way. And I didn't take a picture! It was based on David Thornburg's Campfires in Cyberspace. You can learn more about it here. Basically there were tables in a "U" near the speaker, chairs set farther back on each side, and a small grouping of 2 tables near the back. What would this look like in a classroom? How would students pick their seats? Is there a difference here with adult learners vs. high schoolers?
At Legacy, we are working to develop a student-led technology helpdesk so of course I wanted to listen to Kern Kelley and his Tech Sherpas.

Some of my favorites from the exhibit hall!
I loved meeting all the passionate educators but my favorite was Cathy Knutson! Cathy participates in #ndlibchat and is a school librarian from Minnesota. So cool to meet someone in person that you've connected with in a virtual PLN. And can't wait to see her again!
And of course we had to check out the historical and fun sights in Philly. It was a fantastic town to visit and even more special just days away from the 4th of July!
ISTE 2016 in Denver! Who's coming with me?
